This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Palm Beach Qld Surf Life Saving Club - Dan Stewart OAM and old boys - Photo Palm Beach Qld SLSC.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. Category names[edit]

Hi John - please use scientific names of birds in category names, in keeping with established Commons naming policy. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 23:10, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John - just got your email "I don't think it is useful to drop the common name of a bird from a category. Most people would not know what a Melopsittacus undulatus was if it bit them, but the average punter scanning a page full of Greek and Latin will easily pick 'budgerigar'. Are we posting material for taxonomists or the general public?" - we are of course posting for people all over the world, that means readers in (potentially) 6,000 languages, many of whom do not speak a word of English. However, the scientific names of animals and plants are universal, and are used by people whatever their native language. There is also the problem that what one person calls 'Budgerigar' may not be the same as what another person calls 'Budgerigar', whereas scientific names are standardised. The result, as mentioned above, is that there is a long-standing Commons policy (right from the very early days of Commons, at least 15 years ago), that only the scientific names of animals and plants should be used in category names, with the exception of domesticated variants (pets, livestock, crops). Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 11:44, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Watermarks[edit]

The images you are uploading containing watermarks. This is unwanted on Commons. Please read Commons:Watermarks and upload you further images without water marks and override the ones already uploaded with watermarks. --GPSLeo (talk) 11:37, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled rights given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. - FitIndia Talk Mail 16:08, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add your userpage to regular categories[edit]

I saw that you added your userpage to some categories. But userpages should not be categorized in the regular content categories, they are only for the content here not for any personal pages. If you want to add some information about yourself you can use userboxes and user categories. --GPSLeo (talk) 12:51, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: your mail[edit]

Hi, you didn't deleted those categories, you just decategorized them. There are still +80 images in. I will now empty and delete them. Next time please 1) empty redundant categories and 2) use {{Speedy}} to request deletion. Thx. --JuTa 10:33, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Kevin Rudd campaign poster Dunallen St Greenslopes P1030848.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Corrupted image[edit]

Hi John - could you re-upload File:Schefflera actinophylla beside Beor Street Creek 7th Brigade Park Chermside P1060999.jpg please; the bottom part of the photo has failed to upload. The alternative would be to crop the failed part, but that would be a pity as it would lose the base of the plant. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 15:05, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. Mission accomplished. John Robert McPherson (talk) 10:33, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bombax ceiba[edit]

hi! did you happen to misspell Category:Bombax cieba of Geebung, Queensland or was it intentional? RZuo (talk) 08:46, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It was a slip of the fingers. Should be ceiba not cieba. John Robert McPherson (talk) 11:30, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
